WarCats capture Winter League Championship

A team of 16U Westerville WatCats captured the tournament championship of a local Winter Softball League Saturday, Dec. 17.

Competing in the High School Division, the WarCats White Team won three consecutive games Saturday to capture the Winter Hitting/Pitching League Tournament Championship at Mannino’s Grand Slam USA.

The White Team finished tied for second during the regular season of the Winter Hitting/Pitching League at Mannino’s, an indoor softball-baseball facility at 6635 Dublin Center Drive in northwest Columbus.

After the tournament draw, they entered the tourney seeded third and faced another team of WarCats – the WarCats Black Team – in the first game of the tourney Dec. 17.

Tournament play

The WarCats Black Team finished fourth in regular league play. Black Team members were Tatum B., Marin K., Riley K. and Emma M. 16U pitcher Katie P. also subbed for the Black Team in several games.

WarCats White defeated WarCats Black 53-48 in a closely contested game to open the tournament. WarCats White overwhelmed the Diamonds in the second round. Then, the WarCats White 16U Team defeated Gahanna in the final to win the tourney championship.

The WarCats also fielded a third team in the Mannino’s Winter League, WarCats Red, comprised of Miranda B., Katie P., Maddie P., and Cheyenne H. The Red finished in sixth place in league play but did not make the championship tournament.

The Westerville WarCats Fastpitch Softball League fields teams in 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U competitions, with team members from all four Westerville middle schools and all three Westerville high schools.
